Cynergin secure major contract for the Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals NHS Trust
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals NHS Trust has signed a major energy services performance contract with Ener.G Plc. Cynergin Consultants supported Ener.G Plc throughout the project development and negotiation phases of the project which was procured under the Private Finance Initiative.
Cynergin Consultants were principal to the technical design and financial modelling of a bespoke, holistic, solution combining both demand-side and supply-side energy issues, with green and renewable constituents, self-funding over the term of the contract.
Innovation was a key component of the Trust's selection criteria. Ener.G Combined Power Limited was appointed main contractor and Cynergin Consultants were retained as advisors to ENER.G
Energy and operational savings, amounting to more than 8 million, are guaranteed for the full term of the contract, which includes comprehensive maintenance and all parts and labour as necessary.
A Trust spokesperson said, "No other company was prepared to guarantee energy savings for us, and we have been able to sign the contract on the basis that the capital upgrade will be self-financing, allowing the money that would have otherwise had to be spent on these works to be applied in further improving front-line medical services for our patients. This will not only save money, but it will help protect the environment and improve comfort levels for patients, staff and visitors."
The project has also been supported by a capital grant in excess of half-a-million pounds from the Government's Community Energy Programme - administered by the Energy Savings Trust, for the Carbon Trust. It is expected that the project will deliver an annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of around 4,000 tonnes.
Peter Mapstone, Director of Cynergin Consultants, stated that "we are absolutely delighted to be awarded a contract from such a prestigious institution. The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, along with many other major energy users, is confronting the reality of increasing utility prices, ageing infrastructure, the impact of the Emissions Trading Scheme and competing requirements for their capital.
We are confident that we have provided a solution which addresses their maintenance backlog, does not require asset ownership, and leverages grant funding within the context of a cash-releasing service offering."
