Glasgow Hospital secures Community Energy Capital Grant for Public Sector PFI Project
North Glasgow University Hospitals Division (NGHD) of the NHS in Scotland has secured a capital grant from Community Energy of £304,591.00. The funds are specifically allocated to support NGHD’s comprehensive engineering infrastructure upgrade and energy efficiency project which is expected to deliver over 10,800 tonnes of CO2 savings per annum for its site at the prestigious Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI).
The project is highly innovative and procured under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). It is already at preferred partner status and will comprise a 2160Kw reciprocating high quality CHP unit, together with replacement energy efficient lighting and lighting controls, fixed speed drives, control modifications and several other energy efficient improvements to the existing infrastructure. The private partner will be expected to guarantee performance of all of the assets throughout the life of the contract which is anticipated to be 15 years. The project is the brainchild of Ian Powrie, Estates Manager of the GRI. Ian says “we are delighted that Community Energy have chosen to support the project.”
“We now hope to close the contract before the end of 2004 and expect the whole project to be up and running in early 2006.”
